Before winter has ended in many parts of the country, narcissus brilliantly make an unannounced appearance on sunny hillsides.

 

Maybe you call them by another name: daffodils or jonquils. 

And if they annually sprout up around your yard, you may keep a special vase handy for arranging those first cuttings each season.
