She’s Got the Fern Fever

Photo by Max Letek on Unsplash

There was a name for an obsession with ferns just before the turn of the 19th century; a passion that spilled over into motifs of ferns. Everything from toys to tombstones displayed fern designs. While women in the Victorian era went wild with their fern fever, on its heels was the Edwardian era popularity of parlor palms. These and other outdoor plants thrived in conservatories or greenhouses.

This tropical conservatory in Pine Mountain, Georgia would leave women of yesteryear green with envy.
